Notes for: Martin S. Sommerville
In 1834, Martin Sommerville's father, Robert, was the first settler at Bone Creek, near Auburn in Ritchie County. The creek took its name from a bone lick there. Robert's father, James Simmeral, as the name was originally until corrupted through some errors, came from Cork, Ireland, via Delaware and Maryland to Harrison County, Virginia, where Robert was born on May 1, 1800.
