Notes for: Arnold M. Maddox
The Arnold M. Maddox family moved from Harrison Co, (W)VA to Fauquier Co, VA sometime in the 1860s, probably in concert with Mary Mildred's parents, Jeptha & Catherine Kerns Smith, for both families appeared on the 1870 Census for Fauquier County. The family subsequently moved briefly to Calhoun Co, WV, apparently in concert with Mary Mildred's parents, since both families appeared on the 1880 Census of Calhoun County. It also appears that Arnold Maddox died around this time, specifically between early 1878 and mid-1880, because his last child, William Jeptha, was born in Oct 1878 and Mary Mildred appeared as a widow on the 1880 Census. How long they stayed in Calhoun County in uncertain, but they definitely had returned to Fauquier County by lat 1886, as confirmed by the death records there of two of Mary Mildred's children.
