Local news item, "West Union Herald," Thursday, March 23 1911, in its entirety:
"Editor S. P. Smith is this week moving from the Maccabee Temple to the room recentely vacated by Barber Verge Powell in the new Stuart building. This is only two doors east of his former location and gives Mr. Smith a location second to none in the town. Groceryman Peterson has divided up space with Mr. Smith in the rear of the building, to such an extent that Mr. Smith will now have one of the most commodious and up-to-date business rooms in the town. We congratulate Mr. Smith on his good luck in securing this desirable location, where we feel sure he will meet with a much deserved business sucess."

Local news item, "West Union Record," Thursday, August 26 1915, in its entirety:
"U. G. Snodgrass, who has been employed in the barber shop of V. E. Powell, left Monday evening for Ohio. Mr. Powell was in the country, and did not know that Mr. Snodgrass contemplated leaving. George McCauley took charge of the shop until Mr. Powell returned."

Local news item, "West Union Herald," Thursday, Jan 18 1917, in its entirety:
"Columbus Stewart, a former resident, who has been working at the barber trade, arrived in town Tuesday, and went to work in V. E. Powell's barber shop."
