Event Notes Note (1) Age reported as 10 at time of 1850 Census, putting birth date at about 1840. But age 24 reported at time of Dec 1863 marriage would put birth date at about 1839, and age 53 reported at time of Mar 1891 marriage would put birth date at about 1838. Birth date given in 1900 Census as Aug 1839. Note (2) In 1864, he was a guard at Blockhouse No. 8 on the Northwest Virginia Railroad. He filed for an invalid's pension on Apr 26 1881. In 1915, and again in 1924, he was admitted to the U.S. National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers in Dayton, Ohio. NOTE: The state-issued Civil War medal intended for him was never claimed and remains in storage at the West Virginia State Archives in Charleston.
